Even More Iconic
The HÅG Capisco is one of the world's most recognisable task chairs. Its distinctive silhouette found in homes and workspaces across the globe.
In collaboration with Hilde Hoff Nordskar and her fashion studio, Recouture, HÅG presents a limited collection of twelve one-of-a-kind Capisco chairs. Each piece is upholstered in traditional Norwegian åkle (pronounced OH-kleh), reimagining a design classic through the lens of heritage craftsmanship.
What is Åkle?
Åkle is a traditional woven textile, historically used as a bedspread and wall covering to provide warmth in Norwegian homes. As living conditions evolved, these richly patterned pieces became decorative artefacts—symbols of identity and craft.
Rooted in Old Norse, the word "åkle" means bedspread, and the tradition dates back to the Middle Ages. Each region developed its own distinctive patterns and weaving techniques, typically using vibrant wool and cotton to create textiles of lasting cultural significance.
"Åkle, for me, is heritage. It reminds me of my grandparents' generation."
— Hilde Hoff Nordskar
Create Your Own Piece of Design History
Through this exclusive collaboration with Recouture, you are invited to commission a bespoke HÅG Capisco upholstered in authentic åkle. From textile selection to final detailing, each chair is created in close collaboration between you, Recouture, and HÅG before being individually crafted and assembled in Røros, Norway.
For those with their own åkle, we also offer the opportunity to transform your textile into a truly personal Capisco — an heirloom piece that connects past and present.
Norwegian Heritage, Modern Precision
Since 1957, HÅG chairs have been meticulously crafted in Røros, a historic Norwegian mining town renowned for its rich cultural heritage and UNESCO World Heritage status. While deeply rooted in tradition, HÅG’s production facilities are among the most advanced in Europe and
combines generations of craftsmanship with some of Europe’s most advanced furniture production techniques.
Designed by Peter Opsvik
Envisioned in 1984 by the legendary Norwegian designer Peter Opsvik, the HÅG Capisco 8106 was born to redefine the very nature of sitting. Moving away from the static, Opsvik crafted a chair that celebrates movement and intuitively responds to your body’s need for variation. Today, the 8106 stands as one of Europe’s most revered office chairs and remains the definitive choice for those who seek a workspace defined by both heritage and high-performance movement.
Where Craft Meets Sustainability
Every HÅG chair is thoughtfully crafted to balance enduring quality with refined design. From internal mechanisms to external finishes, each element is engineered with purpose and precision. Alongside this dedication to craftsmanship, HÅG continues to pioneer sustainable manufacturing, whilst reducing environmental impact and creating products designed for a circular future.
In 2010, it became the first chair in the world to receive the prestigious Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Today, it remains at the forefront of sustainable design, crafted primarily from high-quality recycled materials—an achievement further recognised with the European “Best Recycled Plastic Product” award.
